Hiram College Showboat Collection
The Showboat "Majestic" plied the Ohio River during the summers of
1948-58, serving as a laboratory for the Hiram College course "Operating Theatre."
The collection is in two parts. Part one consists of papers documenting
the amazingly complex business arrangements that were conducted in order to
successfully operate a summer theatre program on the Ohio River and its
tributaries. Part two consists of programs, play scripts, placards related
to each year's theatrical activities, personal memorabilia and photographs of
the performers, and newspaper clippings. This part of the collection was
complied by students as well as faculty participants
Mildred Bennett Memorial Collection of Local History Materials
Documents, records and mss. relating to Hiram Village, Hiram Township and the broader Western Reserve area. Includes paper-based materials donated
to the Hiram Historical Society. One feature of this collection is a
compilation of materials which detail the local perspective of early relations
between the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints and the Hiram Community.
The Mildred Bennett Memorial Collection of Local History Materials is
named to honor the memory of a life-long resident of Hiram Village who
contributed to this local
history collection in a significant way by donating her personal papers to the
Hiram College Archives.
Church History
Publications, mss., and journals relating to the Campbellite
Movement/Disciples of Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints (Mormons). Includes the records of the Hiram Christian Church.
Harold E. Davis World War I Propaganda Collection
Several hundred pieces of W.W.I propaganda originating in Europe and North
America, collected by Hiram College Professor of History and Politcal
Science (1926-48), Harold E. Davis.
Maurice &
Ethlynn Fox Map Collection
A collection of historical maps, atlases and travel journals focusing on
the Western Reserve, Ohio, the Great Lakes, and North America, and dating
from 1540 (Munster, "Novae Insulae") to twentieth century railroad maps of
Ohio.
Juvenile Literature Collection
Selected examples of juvenile literature dating from 1821 to 1969.
Grace Nash Collection
Publications in the area of music education by Grace Nash, Carl Orff and
Zoltan Kodaly, collected by Grace Nash (Hiram College, Class of 1930).
Grace E. Pickford Biological Collection
Published works in the field of biology, collected by Grace E. Pickford,
Distinguished Scientist in Residence at Hiram College from 1970-86.
Jessie Brown Pounds Collection
The published works (novels, short stories, hymns) of Jessie Brown Pounds,
well known Disciples of Christ author and hymn writer, who attended Hiram
College in 1884.
Rare Books Collection
A small collection of truly rare books in various subject areas, mostly
donations to the Hiram College Library.
Regional Studies Collection
A growing collection of publications relating to the Western Reserve area
of Ohio.
Albert Galatin Riddle Collection
A collection of the published works of A.G. Riddle, collected by J. Philip
Jones, Hiram College, Class of 1947.
Textbook Collection
A representational collection of textbooks from elementary to college
level, spanning the period from 1681 to 1952. Included are most of the
textbooks used at the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute from 1850 to 1867.

Arnold Family China Missions Collection
1889-1906
and 1921-1926
This collection is comprised of letters, photographs, diary
entries, books, articles of clothing, miscellaneous
documents and artifacts
saved by two generations of the Arnold Family from their service to China.
Thomas
J. and Elizabeth I. Arnold served the China Missions from 1889 until
1906. Their daughter, Gladys C.
Arnold, Hiram class of 1920, then served in many
of the same mission districts from 1921-1926. The years
the Arnold family lived
and worked in China were ones of great turmoil and historical consequence.
This
collection was donated to Hiram College by the
grandchildren of Thomas and Elizabeth Arnold.:

Mary
Louise Vincent Lafcadio Hearn Collection
A collection of the works of Lafcadio Hearn collected by Mary Louise
Vincent, Professor of English at Hiram College from 1939-84, who developed
the collection while working on her doctoral dissertation.
