3. All of the library's CD collection, as
well as its older LP collection, is listed in the
Hiram College Library
Catalog. You may search for a specific CD (title
search), a track on a CD (use the Word search for this) or for a
specific artist/composer (author search).
4. All of the library's video collection,
both DVDs and VHS tapes, is listed in the
Hiram College Library
Catalog. Your best options are title and word searches.
Since most of the older items are not yet fully cataloged, subject
searches will not find them.
5. If you mean how do you find if a
specific article you know about is in the library, you really need
to know how to find out if the library owns that specific issue of
a specific periodical, so see #7 below. If
you mean how to find articles on a particular topic, you will need
to use a Database/Index. They are listed both
by subject and
alphabetically by name. If you
cannot decide which database will best meet your needs you should
consider beginning with Academic Search Premier, a
general database that is the library's most searched database, or
consult a reference librarian.
6. Finding newspaper articles requires the
use of a Database/index specific to newspapers. In the Hiram
College Library, those databases include LexisNexis Academic
University, Newspaper Source, America's
Newspapers, the Historical New York Times,
and Ethnic NewsWatch. These databases and more
are listed on the News, Weather, and
Sports subject page.
7. You will need to check two lists to see
if the journal and issue that you need is available to you.
First, check the
Hiram College
Library Periodical Holdings list, which lists the periodicals
the library has in print (paper) copy or online through its own
subscription. Next, check the
OhioLINK
E-Journal Finder, which lists the thousands of online journals
to which OhioLINK provides access.
8. You may request the library get a
photocopy of the article from another library using a service
called Interlibrary Loan. Just fill out the paper
form (goldenrod in color) in the top tray on the right counter as
you enter the library. Please place the completed form in
the lower tray. You will be notified when the item arrives.
Please plan on about two weeks for the photocopy to come.
The copy will be yours to keep and there is usually no charge.
