You can use the online library catalog, either the new web version or the old text version,  to monitor your own library "account."  You will be able to see what books you have checked out, when they are due,  the status of your OhioLINK requests, and any fines you owe.   You may also renew your books, both from the Hiram College Library and OhioLINK, while online.

To Access Your Account

Using the Web version
1. Get to the main catalog page at http://hiraml.hiram.edu
2. Click on the link View Your Patron Record
3. Type in your name (first name first)
4. Type in your barcode (do NOT leave spaces in the barcode number)
5. Click on Display record for above named person

Using the text version
1. Get to the main catalog page, either by the icon on the computer screen or by telnet://hiraml.hiram.edu
2. Choose V (VIEW your circulation record)
3.  Type in your name (first name first) and press the ENTER key
4.  Type in your barcode (do NOT leave spaces in the barcode number) and press the ENTER key

What You Will See

Using the Web version -- You will see your name and any applicable links.  There will be 0 to 3 links depending upon the activity in your account at that time.  These links may include:

x Items checked out (where x is the number of items checked out) -- Clicking on this link will show you the titles and due dates for the items you currently have checked out.
$x in unpaid fines and bills (where x is the amount of money owed) -- Clicking on this link will show you the individual fines and bills, the amount, and the items to which the fines and/or bills relate.
x Requests (holds) outstanding (where x is the number of requests outstanding) -- Clicking on this link will show you which titles you have a hold placed upon.  This will include all of your OhioLINK requests until they are checked out by you.

Using the text version -- You will see a "form" showing information about your account.  Included are your name, patron status, and barcode.  In the lower left you will see several entries listing which options you have available.  To track your account you will need to use three of these (they will be listed whether you have any account activity or not in that area).  The three options are:

C>Display CHECKED OUT items -- Entering C for this option which show you what items you currently have checked out and when they are due.
H>Display HELD items -- Entering H for this option will show you which titles you have a hold placed upon.  This will include all of your OhioLINK requests until they are checked out by you.
F>Display FINES -- Entering F for this option will show you the individual fines and bills, the amount you owe, and the items to which the fines and/or bills relate.

Renewing Your Books Online

Once you have displayed your Checked Out items, getting a list of titles you have checked out on your account, you may renew one or all of your books.  You may not, however, renew books that are overdue.  To renew those books you must come to the Circulation Desk in the Library.  You may not renew books more than two days before the due date.

Renewing in the Web version -- Once you have a list of titles, you will have the option to RENEW ALL by clicking on that button or renewing individual titles by checking the box to the left of the title (under the RENEW column) and then clicking on the RENEW SELECTED ITEMS button.

Renewing in the text version -- Once you have the list of titles displayed, choose R>RENEW items.  You will then be asked to choose which items.  Type in the line number(s) of the titles you wish to renew and press enter.

It's that easy!

Tracking OhioLINK Requests

You may also use your account to track the status of your OhioLINK requests.  To do this, you need to check the Holds  or HELD items option in your account.   OhioLINK requests will show up under Holds or HELD items, until you check the items out from the Hiram College Library.  Until then, you will generally see one of three status phrases for OhioLINK requests:

Requested -- This indicates another OhioLINK library is processing the request, but has not yet shipped the item.

In Transit -- This indicates another OhioLINK library has shipped the requested item to the Hiram College Library.

OhioLINK REC'D -- This indicates the item has been received and processed at the Hiram College Library and is ready for you to pick it up at the Circulation Desk and check it out.  You will have three weeks to use the item, with one renewal of three weeks if the item is not wanted at the owning library.
