Register to Vote - Exercise your right to vote.  Register today if you haven't already!

Ohio Voter Information - gets you a register to vote form, FAQ on voting in Ohio, etc.  Run by the Ohio Secretary of State's office.
Secretary of State - Ohio - this is the office responsible for running elections in Ohio.
Secretary of State - Other States - links to the state offices responsible for running elections in each of the states.
State Voter Registration Office - the League of Women Voters has provided links to offices responsible for voter registration in each state.


General Campaign Information

Project Vote Smart - probably the best internet resource for campaign information.  Also has a number of links to other relevant sites.  Covers Presidential, Congressional, Gubernatorial, and other state campaigns and elections.
FactCheck.org - Annenberg Political Fact Check - part of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, this site attempts to "monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by U.S. political players."  Looks at TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases.
Spinsanity - Since April 2001, this site works "to counter the increasing dominance of techniques of deception and irrationality in American politics by identifying and dissecting outrageous and important examples of this rhetoric in short posts and longer columns that appear roughly 2-4 times per week."
DNet - the Democracy Network (DNet) is a project of the League of Women Voters and the Center for Governmental Studies.  This interactive web site is designed to improve both the quality and quantity of voter information, thus leading to a more informed and involved electorate.  Candidates enter their own statements and policies without any editing.
League of Women Voters - founded in 1920 with the goal of education women in the use of the newly won vote, the League still has a goal of education voters.  The League also has a number of local organizations:
President Match - A joint project of AOL and Time, this page allows you to match your policy positions (through a series of questions and answer) to the Presidential candidate that most closely matches.  Also, allows you to compare the positions of the candidates on various issues.  Provides basic political and election information, plus coverage of state elections.  Ads, particularly for AOL, can be a drawback for some.
The Vanishing Voter - a project to study and invigorate the U.S. electoral process.  Housed at the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy, which is part of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Politics.com - produced by a team of internet industry leaders, Politics.com strives to be a source for unfiltered access and information related to politics.  The goal is to become the place where politics at all levels -- state, national, and international -- takes place.
Politics1.com - produced by Ron Gunzburger, a campaign consultant and executive VP of LobbyForMe.com, this site attempts to provide a non-partisan service to promote informed decision making by American voters.
Election Ohio - produced by Universe Central Corporation, this site attempts to be a comprehensive source for Ohio election information.

Iowa Electronic Market - the University of Iowa runs a Presidential "stock market," where stocks in candidates are bought and sold.  Prices are tracked and reported just like the stock market.
Washington Post - site includes transcripts of the Democratic presidential campaign debate.


Polls

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe - contains basic data from the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research.  From the main menu choose Reference and then Choose Polls & Surveys.  Then search for your topic.
Louis Harris - polls, regardless of subject, from the leading market research firm.
Electoral Polling Map - regularly tracks and updates national map showing which candidate is ahead in each state, thus showing who is leading the polls in terms of electoral votes.
PollingReport.com - brings together in one location the results of polls by a number of different pollsters.  Presidential polls are free, but polls for state candidates require you to subscribe.


Campaign Finance

Federal Election Commission - established in 1975 to administer and enforce the Federal Elections Campaign Act, this agency is responsible for seeing that candidates follow applicable campaign laws, particularly in regard to campaign financing.
Center for Responsive Politics - follow the money trail as this site tracks who has raised how much money and who the major contributors are for each candidate.
American University Campaign Finance website - begun as a project for a journalism class, this site provides timely data related to campaign finance, including data from past campaigns.
Center for Public Integrity - the Center serves as a watchdog of the government by "exposing abuses of trust."  Paramount in the Center's interest is the role of money in elections.
Public Campaign - Public Campaign is a "non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to sweeping reform that aims to dramatically reduce the role of special interest money in America's elections and the influence of big contributors in American politics."


Election Rules

Federal Election Commission - established in 1975 to administer and enforce the Federal Elections Campaign Act, this agency is responsible for seeing that candidates follow applicable campaign laws, particularly in regard to campaign financing.
Electoral College - as we learned in 2000, it is the Electoral College that actually elects the President.
Ohio Secretary of State - among other responsibilities, the Ohio Secretary of State oversees the Ohio Elections Commission.
Ohio Elections Commission - responsible of overseeing the election process in the state of Ohio.
Portage County Board of Elections - responsible for overseeing the election process in Portage County.  Hiram College's own Dr. Craig Moser is a member.

Presidential Debates

Commission on Presidential Debates - official site of the group responsible for the debates.

On Thursday, November 7, 2003, the Commission announced the following dates and places for the 2004 Presidential debates:

Thursday, September 30 - University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL
Friday, October 8 - Washington University, St. Louis, MO
Wednesday, October 14 - Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ

Tuesday, October 5 - Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH - Vice Presidential Candidate Debate

The Commission also announced two backup sites: Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY and the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC.

Citizens Debate Group - site for an alternative debate group that has scheduled a number of debates designed to include many more third party candidates.
