What are finding aids?
Finding aids are descriptive documents that give the researcher information about the collection. Included is a list of materials in the collection that can be as detailed as each individual item and/ or document or as brief as a simple overview of the types of materials available. A brief history or biographical note, as well as the scope and content of the collection and linear feet of material are also featured.
All processed collections have finding aids available in the Hiram College Archives and some are available online. Please, read the finding aids to determine if the material you seek is located in the collection. Once you have determined that the items are here, you can contact the Archivist for an appointment to view them. When contacting the Archivist include:
- The name of the collection
- The box numbers of the items
- A brief description of the items
