Scope and Content:  

            The Hale Collection is a series of correspondence (316 Letters) written by Charles K. and Wilbur L. Hale of Roundout, Ulster County, New York during the Civil War.  Dating from January 15, 1862 to May 29, 1865, these letters were written to family members and detail the life of a soldier during the Civil War.  Charles and Wilbur both belonged to the 120th Regiment of NY Volunteers.  A member of Co. D, Charles died on May 4, 1864 at Spotsylvania.  Wilbur, a member of Co. I, survived the war, having been promoted to Acting Sergeant Major.
