These databases are designed to help you identify relevant periodical articles through keyword or subject searches. In most cases there will be links to either the online version of the article or a listing of the library's holdings. If you are not sure, you may check the library's Periodical Holdings List and/or its alphabetical list of article databases. These databases are listed in the order in which the library recommends them.
Academic Search Complete. Multidisciplinary database that indexes and abstracts some 9,300 periodicals, both popular and scholarly. Provides full-text to more than 5,300 journals.
MLA International Bibliography. Indexes articles, books, and dissertations on modern literature, languages, folklore, and linguistics. Coverage goes back to 1926.
Film and Television Literature Index. Indexes and abstracts some 600 periodicals related to film, film writing, and television. Includes reviews.
JSTOR. Fully searchable full-text of nearly 1,000 scholarly journals. JSTOR provides back files to the first issue of a journal, but stops 3 to 5 years before the current publication year. Covers all disciplines.
Medline (EBSCO). The National Library of Medicine’s database of more than 11 million bibliographic citations in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care, and related areas. This EBSCO version adds full-text for a number of journals, as well as a Find It link for other citations so you can determine if the Hiram College Library provides access to that article.
Medline (PubMed). The National Library of Medicine’s own site (technically, PubMed) provides free access to Medline, its database of some 11 million bibliographic citations in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care, and related areas. PubMed adds an addition 3 million references not in Medline.
CINAHL Plus with Full Text. Indexes some 1,800 journals in nursing and allied health, with full text of more than 770 journals. Coverage back to 1982.
PsycINFO. The online version of Psychological Abstracts provides indexing to articles and books chapters published worldwide from 1887 to the present.
Gender Studies Database. Indexes journal articles, books, conference papers, reports, dissertations, and other materials related to women's studies, men's studies, and sexual diversity issues.
Electronic Journal Center (EJC). Searchable, full-text issues of journals from a number of major publishers. More than 7,000 journals are available.
