These databases are designed to help you identify relevant periodical articles through keyword or subject searches. In most cases there will be links to either the online version of the article or a listing of the library's holdings. If you are not sure, you may check the library's Periodical Holdings List and/or its alphabetical list of article databases. These databases are listed in the order in which the library recommends them.
Environment Complete. Indexes and abstracts articles from more than 1,000 journals related to all aspects of the environment and ecology. Also includes the full-text of some 80 books and the conference papers of the North American Association of Environmental Education.
GreenFILE. Free database that indexes the literature (books, journals, magazines, reports, and government documents) on environmental issues. Some coverage goes back to the 1970s with indexing of several journal titles going back even farther.
Agricola (EBSCO). Produced by the National Agricultural Library, the database includes citations for books, journal articles, reports, and other materials concerning agriculture and related disciplines. The EBSCO version adds a Find It link for other citations so you can determine if the Hiram College Library provides access to that article.
Applied Science and Technology. Indexes nearly 800 periodicals, some dating back to 1983, on a variety of applied science areas, including acoustics, aeronautics, nuclear engineering, and more.
Public Affairs Index. Indexes periodicals from around the world related to public policy issues, including crime, poverty, education, and more.
TreeSearch. Full-text of publications from the U.S. Forest Service, including journal articles, book chapters and conference papers.
FDsys (Federal Digital System). Provides free online access to official publications from all three branches of the Federal Government.
ISI Web of Science. Part of the Web of Knowledge platform, this is the combined database of the Science Citation Index, the Social Science Citation Index, and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Searchable by keyword and author, but more importantly by cited reference.
Academic Search Complete. Multidisciplinary database that indexes and abstracts some 9,300 periodicals, both popular and scholarly. Provides full-text to more than 5,300 journals.
JSTOR. Fully searchable full-text of nearly 1,000 scholarly journals. JSTOR provides back files to the first issue of a journal, but stops 3 to 5 years before the current publication year. Covers all disciplines.
Electronic Journal Center (EJC). Searchable, full-text issues of journals from a number of major publishers. More than 7,000 journals are available.
