library's online newsletter focusing on what's new in our video

It's been a pretty quiet summer for videos, but we do have a bunch
of feature films ordered at the end of the academic year. So,
let's get to it!

Other News
Cataloging videos - You may have noticed
that we are now fully cataloging all videos. So you should
find it much easier to locate the titles you need and to do some new
searches, such as searching by actors. We are starting to work
our way, very slowly, back through the old videos and give them the
full cataloging treatment, as well.
Finding the Videos - You will also notice a new numbering
scheme that breaks the videos into Feature Films, which are shelved
separately and basically alphabetically by title, and non-feature
films that are assigned Dewey call numbers and shelved on that
basis. We are also shelving DVDs and VHS tapes together.
The call numbering schemes include the format (either DVD or VHS) as
the last element in the call number. So you should see both
the DVD and the VHS tape of Little Man Tate side-by-side (if
they are not checked out).
Building the Collection - This year the
Friends of the Hiram College Library have dedicated a small
amount of money to be spent on growing the video collection.
So, send your suggestions to David Everett at
everettdd@hiram.edu.
Remember the collection is mostly here to support the curriculum so
we are looking mostly for educational videos. We won't rule
out really good films. And we won't consider TV shows at all -
that's a whole different genre and we simply cannot afford it at
this point in time. There are, of course, no guarantees we
will buy all or even any of the suggestions, but we are looking for
a few good videos to buy.
