If You Can't Beat 'Em, Blog 'Em (Film 070.43 If1 2005 DVD) - This episode of Nightline looks at the world of blogs in the context of journalism and how blogs can be used and how they differ from traditional journalism.

News War (Film 323.445 N474 2007 DVD) - Two DVD set of all four Frontline episodes that look at the current issues facing journalism today.

Gorillas (Film 599.884 G675 1988 DVD) - A look at the rare mountain gorillas in the rain forests of Zaire.  Part of the Sierra Club Series.

Caravaggio (Film 759.5 C1767c 1991 VHS) - A look at the life and career of Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Carabaggio.

Voyage to the Enchanted Isles (Film 591.98665 V9486 1988 VHS) - A video trip to the Galapagos Islands.  Another video in the Sierra Club Series.

Piano Concerti of Saint-Saens and Ravel: Live Concerts 1974-1993 (Film 784.262 P573 2005 DVD) - Concertos performed by pianist Aldo Ciccolini.

The Wonderful Kangaroo (Film 599.2 W845 1988 VHS) - This video in the Sierra Club Series looks at the lovable kangaroo, the symbol of Australia to many, who turns out not to always be so lovable.

Chicago Symphony, Daniel Barenboim (Film 784.2 C4326 2006 DVD) - Performances of the Chicago Symphony, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, over three days in April 2000 in Cologne, Germany.

Africa's Animal Oasis (Film 591.9678 Af839 1992 VHS) - A look at the plant and animal life in Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater.

Victoria de los Angeles in Concert (Film 782.1 V6663 1986 2005 DVD) - Victoria de los Angeles sings in a  concert originally broadcast on Canadian TV in 1986.

Iceland River Challenge (Film 949.12 Ic2 1986 VHS) - Follows a group traveling down a remote and wild river in Iceland.

Trials of Life, volume 4, Hunting and Escaping (Film 590 T7309 1991 VHS v.4) - One of the episodes of a BBC series, Hunting and Escaping looks at the weapons, such as camouflage, mimicry, chemicals, and booby traps, that are used in the animal world.

Black Gold: Wake Up and Smell the Coffee (Film 338.17373 B5614 2006 DVD) - Traces the path of coffee from growers in Ethiopia to London and New York, examining the unequal nature of commodities trading.

Art 21: Art in the Twenty-First Century (Film 709.7309051 Ar751 2003 DVD 1/2) - The first two seasons of the PBS program that offers a behind-the-scenes look at contemporary artists at work.

Art 21: Art in the Twenty-First Century (Film 709.7309051 Ar751 2005 DVD v.3) - The third season of the PBS program that profiles contemporary artists.

Conducting Parent-Teacher Conferences: A Partnership in Progress (Film 371.103 C755 2007 DVD) - The title is pretty clear on this one.

Planet Earth (Film 508 P6931 2007 DVD) - Five DVDs covering the complete BBC series.  Episode titles include: From Pole to Pole, Mountains, Fresh Water, Caves, Deserts, Ice Worlds, Great Plains, Jungles, Shallow Seas, Seasonal Forests, Ocean Deep, Saving Species, Into the Wilderness, and Living Together.

Fallingwater: The House Tour (Film728.37 F193 2000 DVD) - Take a tour of the Kaufmann family vacation home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Learning in Context: Probing the Theories of Piaget and Vygotsky (Film 370.1523 L4795 2004 DVD) - The subtitle says it all in this look at recent work by psychologists in the area of learning and performance.

Times Are A-Changin' (Film 973.923 T4827 2005 VHS) - A look at the social and political changes in America during the 1960s and early 1970s.

Gitmo (Film 355.3432 G4476 2007 DVD) - Attempts to show what really goes on at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, America's detention camp in the War Against Terror.

Sicko (Film 362.10973 Si129 2007 DVD) - Filmmaker Michael Moore looks at the American health care system.

Ida B. Wells: A Passion for Justice (Film 973.0496 W4622i 2004 DVD) - Documentary on the life and times of the pioneer African American journalist.  Toni Morrison reads selections from Wells' work.

The Language You Cry In (Film 781.6296 L2698 1998 DVD) - Traces the history of a burial song brought by slaves from Africa to the southeast coast of America and how in the twentieth-century it was traced back to Sierra Leone, where a remote village still remembered it.

The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow (Film 323.1196073 R492 2002 DVD) - Four programs looking at the period from Emancipation to the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement when a system of segregation and terror replaced slavery.

At the River I Stand (Film 331.892813 At1 2004 DVD) - The two months in 1969 Memphis that led to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Homecoming: Sometimes I am Haunted by Memories of Red Dirt and Clay (Film 305.9630899 H7526 1999 DVD) - A history of the ownership of farm land by African Americans from Reconstruction to the present.

The Story of America's Great Volcanoes (Film 55.210973 St761 1992 VHS) - Part of the Discovering America series, this film takes a look at volcanoes in the American west, Alaska, and Hawaii.  Most of those volcanoes are not dead, just quiet.

¡Salud! (Film 362.1097291 Sa381 2006 DVD) - Looks at health care in the third world with a focus on Cuba, which has, despite U.S. sanctions and a lack of cash, what the BBC calls "one of the best health care systems."


New Feature Films

Away From Her (Feature Film Aw17 2007 DVD) - Julie Christie stars as a woman suffering from the onset of Alzheimer's.  Gordon Pinsent and Olympia Dukakis also star in this Sarah Polley film that looks at how Alzheimer's effects those closest to the patient.

Groundhog Day (Feature Film G9182 1993 2002 DVD) - Romantic comedy in which TV weatherman Phil Connors (played by Bill Murray), along with his producer (Andie McDowell) and cameraman (Chris Elliott), is stuck in Panxsutawney covering the annual Groundhog Day festivities, only to wake up the next morning to discover he's living Groundhog Day over again and again and again and . . ..

Trading Places (Feature Film T6756 1983 2002 DVD) - Comedy in which two wealthy brothers (Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy) make a bet on whether its nature or nurture by working it so a down-and-out con artist (Eddie Murhphy) switches life-styles with a well-off investor.  Jamie Lee Curtis also stars.

Miss Potter (Feature Film M6911 2007 DVD) - Renee Zellwger and Ewan McGregor star in this film based on the life of Beatrix Potter, author of The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

All the King's Men (Feature Film A1517 1949 2006 DVD) - Broderick Crawford, John Ireland, and Joanne Dru star in the original film version of the Robert Penn Warren novel, based on the life of Louisiana governor Huey Long.

Spartacus (Feature Film Sp27 1960 1998 DVD) - Burt Lancaster stars in this story of a gladiator slave who leads a revolt against the Roman Empire.

Dreamgirls (Feature FilmD81 2007 DVD) - Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, and Eddie Murphy star in the big screen adaptation of the Broadway hit.

Bridge to Terabithia (Feature Film B7644 2007 DVD) - Walt Disney Pictures brings Katherine Paterson's novel to the big screen.

The Road to Guantanamo (Feature Film R5313 2006 DVD) - Based on the story of three young British Muslims, captured in Afghanistan, and who are shipped to Guantanamo as terrorists only to be released two years later without being charged.

The Lord of the Rings.  Fellowship of the Ring (Feature Film L8846 2001 DVD) - The first in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy based on the work of J.R.R. Tolkien.  This was #50 on the American Film Institute's most recent list of the 100 best films of all time.

The Lord of the Rings.  The Two Towers (Feature Film L8846 2002 DVD) - The second film in the trilogy.

The Lord of the Rings.  The Return of the King (Feature Film L8846 2003 DVD) - The third and final film in the trilogy.
