Music
Collection at the Hiram College Library |

|
Welcome to the Hiram College Library Music
Collection. Our growing collection of music is primarily intended
to support the needs of the Music Department and the college's
curriculum. Secondarily, it also serves the listening pleasure of
the campus community. It is a circulating collection, so that
patrons may check out any materials that are not currently placed on
Reserve for courses. The circulation period is 7 days, with one 7
day renewal.
Music CD Collection
The Music CD Collection is found in
the Schneider Room, on the main floor of the Library
building. Materials are
organized by broad category or special collection (see the table below
for a complete breakdown) to make
browsing easier. Within each
category or group of categories, music is arranged alphabetically by composer/performer, or by
title for multi-authored works. We currently have nearly 6,000
titles. We also produce a newsletter, A
Fistful of Music, to notify the campus community of new items and
provide other information of interest.
Record Collection
We also maintain an LP record
collection located in the Center for
Educational Technology, in the lower level of the Library building. There are listening stations equipped with turntables for
your listening needs. These materials are organized by composer or
performer, and title. Unlike other libraries, our collection of
LPs is actually growing. We have two separate collections.
Our legacy
collection has approximately 3,300 records, and includes materials
from our older music collection as well as numerous smaller gift
collections. A second collection is currently being cataloged,
donated by Carl Bauman, Class of '59. When processed, the Bauman
Collection will contain approximately 13.000 recordings, primarily
of classical music.
Music Scores
A collection of several hundred music scores
is also found in the Center for Educational Technology. This
collection is still partially cataloged, and awaits further work.
If you have suggestions for future
purchases, please contact Jeff Wanser at wanserjc@hiram.edu
Or, if you prefer, add suggestions for specific titles or types of music
to the notebook atop the CD cabinets.
