Join Us: September 17th at 4:15 PM in the Pritchard Room on the second floor of the library for this fascinating talk.

Merose Hwang conducted a project in South Korea comparing the Sewol 4.16 Disaster of 2014 and the Itaewon 10.29 Tragedy of 2022. She will share “youth deathscapes” that emerge from the state and society’s failure to maintain safety and public empathy, revealing signals of a strained democracy. The talk will explore historical circumstances surrounding these deaths and how survivors create new, alternative spaces of mourning to come to terms with lost peers while navigating social and political pressures.
