October is a very busy time of year, Classes are in full swing, the leaves are changing, and it is getting colder outside. October is also special because it is Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th, and LGBTQ+ History Month, which runs the whole month of October.

Hispanic Heritage Month is nationally observed from September 15th to October 15th. The start date is a nod to the independence days of a number of different Hispanic countries. This is a  time to uplift, celebrate, and enjoy the many aspects of Hispanic culture through music, movies, art, and books!

LGBTQ+ History Month has been nationally observed since 1995. October was chosen because it coincides with National Coming Out Day which falls on the 11th of October. This month is a time to learn about, commemorate, and celebrate the accomplishments and history of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Asexual, Intersex, Queer, Nonbinary, and so many more individuals contributions and achievements.

In honor of both, below is a short selection of books to add to your reading list to celebrate! All of these amazing books are available here at the library, or through the online catalog. If you need any help finding a book just ask anyone at the front desk or one of the librarians.
