Streaming Videos

The library licenses a number of databases that include videos.

Documentaries

Alexander Street Video This link opens in a new window
A streaming video platform providing access to thousands of videos (with no overlap with Kanopy), mostly documentary in nature. Among the collections are Bullfrog Films, Icarus Films, BBC, Filmakers Library, Sony Pictures Classics, and more. Once a video is viewed a fourth time for 30 seconds or more, the library is billed for a one-year license. Please carefully select your items before clicking on them.

A streaming video platform providing access to thousands of videos, mostly documentary in nature. Among the collections are the Criterion/Janus Films Collection, First Run Features, PBS, HBO, Kino Lorber, California Newsreel, Media Education Foundation, and many more. Once a video is viewed a fourth time for 30 seconds or more, the library is billed for a one-year license ($150). Please carefully select your items before clicking on them.

Feature Films

The Hiram College Library uses Swank Digital Campus to license feature films for streaming for online, educational use - it does not provide public viewing rights. You may search their catalog here, but you must work through the library director (vogelj@hiram.edu) to license the film. Click here if you want to see what is already licensed. If you choose to use a film that is already licensed, check the license expiration date to be sure the film will not disappear during the semester.

Indexes and abstracts some 5,000 business-related publications. Provides full-text to more than 4,000 periodicals. Coverage of important scholarly journals goes back to the first issue (or back to 1886 in the most extreme case). Also includes financial data, industry reports, company profiles, SWOT analyses, market research reports, and more.

Provides comparative documentation, analysis, and interpretation of major human rights violations and atrocity crimes worldwide from 1900 to 2010. The collection includes primary and secondary materials across multiple media formats including books, essays, articles, personal accounts, television broadcasts, videos, and more.

Contains some fifty hours of primary footage and secondary documentaries that explore the key events of the sixties and early seventies. This is a great video complement to The Sixties: Primary Documents and Personal Narratives 1960-1974.
