Join us for this free event next Saturday, Feb. 22nd! The library is putting together an exhibit of artifacts from the Hiram College Archives about James A. Garfield's campaign for the presidency. The materials date back to 1880 and earlier! Charlie Goodyear actually used our archives to help write his book, and he is an incredible speaker. So interesting! And wait until you see the flag . . .it is huge, a true testament to community spirit. But don't take our word for it, come see the flag, and hear the author speak about Hiram's own, James A. Garfield!

Engaging Students in Field Station Forest Ecology - This past summer, students explored forest health at the Field Station, comparing old-growth areas to lands recovering from logging and agriculture. They also conducted independent research on forest biodiversity, with more exciting projects on the horizon for summer 2025.
Join us for a talk on what we’ve learned, what’s next, and how students can get involved in research, internships, and outreach at the Field Station. Discover the impact of hands-on ecological research!

A Special Visit to the Hiram College Library Archives!
We were thrilled to welcome history blogger Thomas Watson, who traveled all the way from Michigan with his wife, granddaughter, and a very special travel companion—a Thomas Jefferson bobblehead! He documents his journeys to historical sites, with a particular focus on past presidents. Check it out: https://eyesofjefferson.com/
Joining him was Tim Garfield, the great-great-grandson of President James A. Garfield and First Lady Lucretia Garfield.
During their visit, they explored some of our unique Garfield treasures, including:
Original Garfield family lithographs
A silver water pitcher gifted to Garfield by a hose brigade during his campaign
A giant folio of newspaper clippings documenting Garfield's assassination and the trial of his assassin
An original presidential campaign pin from Garfield's 1880 campaign
A heartfelt letter written by Garfield to Hiram College (then Western Reserve Eclectic Institute) as a "farewell for now"
It was an afternoon filled with history, storytelling, and connections to the past! We’re honored to have shared this glimpse into the legacy of one of Hiram’s most notable alumni.
Amanda Flower, a USA Today bestselling and Agatha Award-winning author, who has written over fifty mystery novels, spoke at the event. Watch the recording.
