James is a student worker here at Hiram College Library and you can find him working at the front desk or around the library doing various other tasks. James is a performing arts major who intends to go on to tech-theatre work after graduating. James enjoys riding his bike, gaming, and watching movies in his free time. James, like most everyone who works at the library, also enjoys reading. Some of his favorite genres include dark fiction, thrillers, and crime novels, though his favorite book is The Backstage Guide to Stage Management by Thomas A Kelly. James would like others to know that the library isn’t all work, it has lots of fiction books as well, and even a great graphic novel selection.

Laurence Skirvin is the Technical Services Librarian at the Hiram College Library.  While he majored in Philosophy during undergrad, it was around the time that he graduated that he began looking exploring working at a library, and a few years after he began to pursue a career in librarianship. Laurence’s favorite part of the library is the annex. He says “It’s a part of the library that not many people know about and contains much of the history of my aspect of librarianship” and notes that people may also be unaware of the libraries collection of board games, which will soon have their own display, that can be checked out. In his free time, Laurence enjoys watching YouTube videos, and preparing for and playing Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletop roleplaying games. Though he has many favorite books and series, including George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series that inspired Game of Thrones, one of his all-time favorites is Catch-22. Laurence’s favorite part about being at Hiram is the people, not just the ones he works with but the students and others who visit the library.
