Book Check Out

Hiram College Library Students (as well as OhioLINK member institution students). may check out circulating materials, DVD/CDs, laptops, and other materials with a valid ID.

The loan period for items from the general collection varies depending upon the material, please ask the circulation desk for details and a specific date as to when the material you are checking out needs to be return. The loan period for course reserve and academic support materials is two hours.

Borrowers are billed for replacement of unreturned materials. If the bill is not paid, a hold is placed on the student’s record that may prevent registering for classes or obtaining transcripts.

Borrowing from other Libraries

Hiram College Library has many resources available to you, however on occasion you may need to borrow from other libraries in the OhioLINK system or even outside through Inter-Library Loan. There are many ways to get to the OhioLINK system and Inter-Library Loan system however for this orientation we will briefly cover both.

  • OhioLINK allows you to borrow books from a large variety academic sources throughout the state, through OhioLINK you are able to access millions of resources and have them sent to the circulation desk in the Library.
    • Materials take 3 to 5 business days (or sometimes longer) to arrive.
    • You will be notified by email when your materials arrive.
    • Books not picked up after 10 days are automatically returned.
    • Requests are blocked if you:
      • Our copy is available;
      • There are no available, circulating copies;
      • You do not have borrowing privileges at the Hiram College Library.
  • Interlibrary Loan allows Hiram College students, faculty and staff to obtain materials that are not held by the library. Through this you can request us to find a resource that is outside the OhioLINK system.
    • You can access the ILL form from the Library page for ILL requests. OR
    • Directly requesting articles from the various databases you can access through the library.‚Äč
