Open Educational Resources (OER)

OER are teaching, learning, and research materials that are either in the public domain or released under an open license allowing free use and adaptation (Definition from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation). These materials support the 5Rs of Open: Retain, Reuse, Revise, Remix, Redistribute.

OER can include a wide variety of digital learning materials, such as:

  • Open textbooks
  • Full courses or modules
  • Syllabi and lectures
  • Homework assignments and quizzes
  • Lab activities, games, and simulations
