Hiram College Library

Hiram College Library fosters intellectual excellence and encourages lifelong learning in the Hiram community.

Types of Donations

Monetary Donations

The easiest way to make a monetary donation to the Hiram College Library is to join the Friends of the Hiram College Library. Since its founding in 1984, the Friends have donated more than a half of a million dollars to the library to purchase books and support events.

Not all donors, however, neatly fit into the Friends. So, if you are looking at a larger gift to fund a library endowment or a donation through estate planning, please reach out to the staff in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. They would be glad to assist you!

Donating Books, CDs, DVDs, and other Materials

The Hiram College Library will accept, with some exceptions, your donation of books, DVDs, and CDs. Library staff will evaluate the items to see if they should be added to the library’s collections. The majority of books and other materials, however, are placed in the Friends of the Library book sale. Proceeds from the book sales directly benefit the library.

Please note that the library cannot accept the following:

Materials in poor condition: missing pages, heavily underlined or highlighted, damaged bindings,
water damage, mold damage, etc.
Textbooks older than three years
VHS and cassette tapes
Popular magazines, such as National GeographicAmerican Heritage, or Reader’s Digest
Scholarly journals may be accepted; please consult with the Library Director.
Encyclopedia sets
Computer software and manuals
Reader’s Digest condensed books
Training manuals
Materials taped “off-air”
Notebooks

Before donating, please check to make sure you have left nothing in the books and have removed any names, inscriptions, or other identifying marks.

If you wish to donate materials to the Hiram College Library, please complete and sign a Books and Materials Donation Form (linked in the tab above) before delivering your books to the library. If you check the form to indicate you wish a receipt for tax purposes, the Hiram College Office of Development and Alumni Relations will mail you a receipt for a gift-in-kind and the Library will provide an inventory of the items donated.

You may drop-off your donations at the front desk of the library during the hours the library is open.
